Principal's Message
We are happy to welcome you to the 2023/2024 school year at Waterloo Independent Secondary School!
As we begin a new year, we encourage you to take a moment to commit yourself to bringing a positive attitude and making your best effort every day. Does that sound too obvious or simple to be important?
High school is a place full of new experiences. By bringing a positive attitude, you are opening yourself up to the possibility of discovering a hidden talent, a lifelong passion or a new friend. Positive attitudes are contagious- your smile could brighten someone’s day and that will spread through our school community. Not every day will be easy, but making your best effort sends the message that your goals and future are worth working for.
Here at WISS, we are committed to caring for, guiding and leading you towards that future. We see your potential and are excited to help equip you with the tools to get there. Your teachers have great knowledge and experiences to share; they will be invaluable resources for you.
Welcome to the WISS family, both returning students and new faces. Together we are going to have a great year!

Don’t take our word for it – here’s what our students say:
Louis
University of Waterloo
I was fortunate to have chosen Waterloo Independent Secondary School, I succeeded in becoming a double-degree student the at the University of Waterloo. My GPA at University was quite good and stable, which I attribute to the education and cultivation of the teachers at WISS.
Amy
Grade 11 Student
The courses at Waterloo Independent Secondary School are well set to match the direction of each student’s university curriculum. I transferred from another school last year and I have found all the courses here are helpful to me. WISS is ideal for international students who are new or already in Canada.
